It seems that the past week has gone in a blink of an eye!
With my busiest week at work for month-end, a project at home, and other family-related issues, my mind could not have been more engaged. Of course, somebody could not forget the broader issues such as the effect of COVID 19 and the recent American Elections.
And by the way, on the COVID 19 issue, it's good to hear on the news that Pfizer and BioNTech have announced a vaccine candidate against this dreaded disease. They now think there could be a vaccine available by summertime 2021!
With all this going on, I've not thought what topic to write about this week.
After going through my old notes for ideas, I came across a file with some of the poems I've written expressing my emotions on certain occasions. So, I've decided to share one of them here.
I composed this poem due to an incident I came across years ago. I was with a group of women; they happened to talk about a 'difficult' man whom one of the women had to deal with at work. They presumed the man had a Thai bride because his daughter was foreign-looking, and that who would want to be with a loopy guy like that? They carried on talking derogatory remarks about foreign brides as I walked out of the room.
I felt offended by being a foreigner and married to a Scottish guy. When I went back to the room, I couldn't help but voice out a piece of my mind that they were highly opinionated and very judgmental. You can imagine how they reacted at the time!
Discrimination and Prejudice occur everywhere globally, and still is a very relevant subject at this time. However, we should always try to be mindful of being more tolerable and understanding of the people around us, no matter what the circumstances are.
Well, for all its worth, here goes:
For Dust, We Shall Become
We are all equal in God's eyes.
No matter what gender, creed, race
we belong to
We all have purposes here on earth
Wherever and whenever we are
In the end, we all die and become Dust.
We are all equal in God's eyes.
We are all destined where we are
Right at this moment
And we assert our lives just like anyone else
In the end, we all die and become Dust.
We are all equal in God's eyes.
No matter where we come from
Africa, Asia, Europe
America or the Middle East
In the end, we all die and become Dust.
We are all equal in God's eyes.
Even Thai brides
Frowned upon and looked down
By most people who do not comprehend
Meaning of life does not tend
to be judged at one's end
They live and have feelings just like anyone
In the end, we all die and become Dust.
Who are we to judge
Who's worthy, and for what?
Life on earth is but a temporary one
In the end, we all die and become Dust.
For God is the only judge
Of who is good and bad
Here on earth, we have no right
In the end, we all die and become Dust.
Till here for now, until next Wednesday. Keep well, and stay safe!
